Your website should reflect a current design featuring a balance of form and function (beauty and information).
As artist, photographer, hairstylist, writer, web designer and internet marketer, I use the palette of my skills in concert with valuable team members to provide a full-service self-promotion vehicle that will give you the edge required for you to compete in this challenging market.
There are still opportunities out there… position yourself to be selected!
Lets review several fundamentals to the art of successful self-promotion whether it be via the internet or print. Without question, a professional photo is the best attention-getting device. The tone should be inviting; the subject should be well lit and naturally posed.
For the face, facial expression and hairstyle are your most important features. Your eyes and mouth are the communication centers of your face. What is the unspoken message you are trying to convey to your viewers? Your hairstyle acts as a frame for your face and should be one that is most flattering for your age, facial shape and vocation; a painting is not complete without the perfectly selected frame.
The words and images you choose to advertise your product or service must leave a lasting impression. The text should be clear and to the point, yet clever and compelling. The images should tell a story without words, and your logo should be a memorable image that can be easily identified.

Resourcefulness is my Greatest Commodity
One of the greatest compliments that I have ever received was from a dear and extremely street-wise friend. Francine stated “if I were stranded anywhere I would want to be with you because you are so resourceful.” Wow, ok. I know I am resourceful, but did not realize that it was so strongly apparent to others.
In the current state of this economic paradigm shift, resourcefulness is certainly a commodity. Though I am far from the level of security that I would like to have, I am doing better than surviving in these worst of times. I use my resourceful skills fervently and make sure to help others any way I can. What developed this strength? How do I package it, brand it and expand upon it?
I have been described as an entrepreneur. First, let’s understand the force and the mindset that drives an entrepreneur. I have always worked for myself, even when acting as an independent contractor under someone else’s umbrella. As a hairstylist, my job encompasses so much more than most can imagine. I am responsible for building and maintaining client relationships. As an entrepreneur, these are some of the things I have learned:
Staying at the forefront of trends is seeing change and reacting to it, and we’re not just talking fashion. The internet is an essential tool to stay at the forefront of change. Growth and change should not be feared. Never get stuck in your thinking, always maintain an innovative perspective. An Entrepreneur rides the wave of change by developing new ideas that benefit our culture, and learn how to better work in it.
Ask yourself – what is important? And in what priority? As a pragmatist, I am interested in practical consequences and real outcomes. Entrepreneurs instinctively think for themselves, instinctively network, and instinctively keep several balls in the air at once. (This is where ADD can work for you)
I cannot help being shocked and disgusted at hearing so many people trash our capitalistic system. While less than perfect, the alternative is far worse. We must maintain the spirit of Capitalism and not shoot ourselves in the foot just because things have become harder. That would be throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Don’t forget about your image! Our image is broadcasted to the public via the web these days, presenting your best physical appearance is very important.
Be a rabid networker! Create business and personal relationships with as many people as possible. Pay it forward, and genuinely find love and satisfaction in helping others. It will pay exponential dividends back to you.
Do you need a polished appearance? A website? Photographs for your business? A Video or Power Point presentation to market your services? A marketing plan to utilize your ad dollars with a Google ad words campaign? A business coach? A product patented and developed?
Talk to me. Benefit from my experience, resources and network. I am a source for so much.
If you have a business but don’t have a website – that is like having a business but not carrying a business card. If you are seeking some type of employment, you need to have an excellent resume posted online.
The Internet is the greatest cost-effective marketing resource. But remember, once you adapt yourself to change – you can’t stay there, change is in perpetual motion.
Here is a book that I consider to be “Mindset 101”.
Who Moved My Cheese? An Amazing Way to Deal with Change in Your Work and in Your Life. Published in 1998, this is a motivational book by Spencer Johnson. It is a parable, a business fable about changing one’s work and life, and typical reactions to change.

If you start noticing the ends of your hair being burned suddenly, take a good look at your Hair dryer. Is it spewing fire balls or getting red hot close behind the front grill? Often we are negligent about cleaning the intake air vents on our hair dryers. (Yes, I have too) The intake air vent brings in air to cool the motor. When the vents are blocked with lint, the dryer can get torch hot. If you are lucky, you hair dryer will automatically shut off when the motor gets too hot, but not always. Remove the lint screen from the dryer and rinse under water to clean, dry before replacing. The lint screen on a typical consumer hair dryer generally does not do a good job of catching all the lint that the dryer pulls in (that’s because they are built by accountants
To clean the lint that plugs the non-removable screen, use an old toothbrush. Hair that is bleached, lightened, or the finer front hairline is more prone to burning. Do not concentrate the dryer in one particular area to too long, it’s not the 70’s or 80’s.
Sometimes it is time to get a new dryer. An ionic blow dryer is the way to go in the 21st century. An ionic blow dryer emits millions of negative charged particles that bond to your hair. Negative Ions break down moisture molecules with very little heat and
dry your hair quickly. In addition, negative ions reduce both frizz and heat damage while leaving your hair fuller, shinier and healthier. Look for a ceramic hair dryer, preferably tourmaline.
For really thick or curly hair that takes longer to dry, I would suggest investing in a professional hair dryer. Higher priced dryers have ionic generators and will out put more negative ions. You will also have a more durable tool. Fine hair can benefit from a higher quality ionic hair dryer too, and will treat it gently, as well as create less static. The rest of us can use a moderately priced dryer with a ceramic or tourmaline core, these generate less negative ions, but are less of an investment. But it wasn’t until I tried Iyengar Yoga that it became my addiction. Though regular practice, I have regenerated my body in ways unimaginable by any other form of exercise… and at age 50, I definitely have my wear and tear issues. The Iyengar system focuses on alignment, timing and sequencing. Correct alignment requires focus and attention by the student. Through a regular yoga practice vitality, balance and coordination are enhanced.
I have heard many state “I can’t do yoga, I am just not that flexible.” Well, that is all the more reason to practice yoga. In addition, yoga is not only about flexibility, it is also about building strength, improving the function of body systems and internal organs. For me, I tend to be hyper-flexible. I naturally have too much range of motion, which causes a tendency to hyper-extend. I use yoga to build strength to support my frame.
Typically, the exercise most of us do just reinforces misalignment. I know, been there, done that. Most of us do not know how to use our bodies properly, no one ever taught us. We stretch our more flexible areas and enlist our already better-developed muscles for strength. This just exacerbates existing problems and conditions. With the aid of teachers trained in anatomy, physiology and therapeutics, we can safely and effectively strengthen our weaker areas, stretch our stiff areas, and realign our bodies. Learning to use our bodies properly will enhance our performance in all other physical activities.
Iyengar teachers go through rigorous training programs and mandatory continuing education. In Iyengar Yoga – everyday, household items are used, such as blankets, straps and blocks. Chairs and walls are also used as props in innovative ways. There are many therapeutic applications to Iyengar Yoga that can bring relief from back pain, scoliosis, headaches, stress, inflammation, chronic fatigue, high blood pressure, depression, carpal tunnel syndrome, TMJ, knee issues and multiple sclerosis.
